After setting up , got curious how DNS leak test tools, which discover your DNS resolver, such as , work :blobcatthinking:

Turns out, it's quite clever setup: while you are visiting browserleaks.com website, in the background it queries a number of hostnames generated especially for you, such as 9d0pafrc5tnu.dns4.browserleaks.net, 0zfannouveb4.dns4.browserleaks.org and so on.

Because the website generates those hostnames specifically for your session, it is able to associate your external IP to the hostnames you attempt to resolve.

Now because site operators controls authoritative name servers behind those generated hostnames - specifically ns2.browserleaks.net and ns1.browserleaks.net (also with .org), from logs they can check what exact DNS resolver asked for those unique hostnames.

Simply matching a resolver DNS that attempted to resolve those unique hostnames is enough to link it to your visit of a website session - it is often going to be the resolver of your internet service or virtual private network provider, unless you've explicitly changed your resolver to something else. Still, easily visible to authoritative DNS server.

Voila! No magic, just simple, nice setup :blobcatcheer:

UFO researcher in Manitoba supports using AI tracking to 'uncover what's really going on'
Artificial intelligence is going to make it easier to spot whether a bird, a plane or an otherworldly creature is in the sky, Canada's top UFO expert says, as Canadians continue to report sightings of unidentified flying objects.

URL tracking parameters (utmsource, fbclid, gclid, etc.) follow you across the web. Every link you click or share carries these invisible identifiers.

Trackless Links is a Safari extension for iOS and macOS that automatically removes them. It runs entirely on-device with zero data collection.

The companion CRED-1 dataset provides domain credibility signals for 2,672 domains.

Can we use youtube SIs to mess with the algorithm

Youtube automatically adds a tracking code called an SI to most links generated through their app and webpage. Its a unique identifier used to track video sharers. If Alice shares a video with her SI in it and Bob clicks the link, Bobs browser will send Alices SI to youtube, and now Google knows that Alice and Bob are friends. Its a way of spying on peoples interactions outside of youtube. You can install browser extensions and alternate apps that strip away your SI, to prevent Google from spying on you.

So Im wondering if we can use SIs to hack the youtube algorithm. For example, lets say we took note of a left wing youtubers SI, someone nice like hbomberguy, and a million people installed a browser extension that adds hmbomberguys si to all their youtube links. And then they just go along sharing links as normal. Would the algorithm notice that tons of people are looking at videos seemingly shared by hbomberguy, and boost his videos Or is there anything else we could do with SIs to manipulate Googles analytics in a way that spoils their data and achieves some useful and prosocial end we believe in
