I seem to find very little information on how referrer policies are applied on CNAME (sub)domains. Which is also smth that's seen regularly. There is focus on CNAMEs for / , but little on referrer and hints at that Firefox does not take it into account at all. So another reason to disable referrers.
So it seems that your 'cdn.mywebsite.com' is treated as same origin for policies, but may be CNAME dns record to CDN third party. (Thinking out loud.)
