Google, Microsoft, Amazon, X, and the entire tracking-based advertising industry rely on the Transparency & Consent Framework (TCF) to obtain consent for data processing. This evening the Belgian Court of Appeal ruled that the TCF is illegal. The TCF is live on 80% of the Internet.

Flock, the automatic license plate reader (ALPR) company whose cameras are installed in more than 5,000 communities in the U.S., is building a product that will use people lookup tools, data brokers, and data breaches to jump from LPR license plate reader to person, allowing police to much more easily identify and track the movements of specific people around the country without a warrant or court order, according to internal Flock presentation slides, Slack chats, and meeting audio obtained by 404 Media.

We're now in Trakt migration 2.0.
The move by Trakt that triggered Trakt Migrtation 1.0 was understandable, they have to make money.
But in this latest move, messing with grandfathered accounts, no, not understandable.
You just don't mess with grandfathered accounts ever in any service. That's your way of saying, "Thank you for always being with us since the beginning".
My mobile network plan is a grandfathered account, and the network have been trying to get us to "upgrade" to a "better" plan. Ad that's to mention one such.
Even in gaming, grandfathered accounts are not touched ever. If they cancel, that's the only time things change. Why Simple, the current contract/subscription ended. So, the next time the user subscribe, it will be under the current scheme.
In addition, owners of grandfathered accounts will do everything to keep it. They'll borrow money if it comes to that. You have grandfathered accounts that are paying you but the owners are rarely using it. Compare that to the owners cancelling their grandfathered accounts because it no longer has any value for them.
Just like right now. Many are cancelling because.

If you're stuggling to convince a friend or family member that digital privacy is important (e.g. you're trying to convince them to leave WhatsApp and install Signal) then you will hear common objections.
One of them is '"I like personalised ads!"
For those people try this:
Privacy is a collective problem, therefore it's a team sport! Tell them to 'Zoom out', it's not all about them.
The mobile browser has an interesting feature. It can use its web protection also for tracking by other apps. App tracking protection is not on by default in the settings. When you turn it on, you will be amazed about how much personal information your apps try to send to tracking companies. I uninstalled an app which did 2500 tries per day.

Pretty freakish - you can deny all the you want, but amiunique.org will probably tell you your system and browser combo is probably unique anyway given all the info the server is able to probe.
Two approaches: blending in the masses or randomization. Both require extra effort and are thus a burden on us, the users.
The web should be designed more adversarial, unfortunately. I want more control about what Im sending out.

i think im giving up on online services so im looking at local apps.
what i would like is something with a clean, simple interface to record
- books i want to read (maybe with a note where i heard about it from),
- books i have (and in which formats/editions),
- and books im reading (including start/end date, comments/highlights and a simple rating)
- need to be able to correct/adjust/merge metadata of the books

I installed the app the other day solely for the tracking protection.
Wow. So far over 14k blocked tracking attempts across 26 apps.
Most of them are Google (assuming Analytics), some ive never even heard of like Branch Metrics, Amplitude, Iterable... the list goes on.

Non-EU sites giving you this welcome ...
That "legal reason" argument... is bul***t
Their legal reasons is that they are not allowed to track you without your knowledge and your consent. And that is why they block you when you're visiting the site from EU. Because requires sites to notify you of such possibilities.
The solution is simple: DON'T TRACK!
But there's no money in that. And if they had allowed you to visit and ignore GDPR they fear the EU would chase them down and give them a solid fine.
So if they can't earn money on you or they risk getting a fine when you visit their site, they rather tells you to F*** of*! and go somewhere else.
That's how valuable the tracking is for them. And it gives you nothing back.
So "legal reasons" .... yeah, right!
Also, I find myself regularly withholding updates of, partly deprecated, apps, whose only features seem to be reducing their functionality and adding nagscreens to remove them in favour of a now-enshittified successor. Or to add senseless technology and/or / / integration.
Tracking users across the internet is a privacy and security risk. It shouldn't matter whether or not you use AI for it.
