Back in 2022, Walled Culture wrote about a legal case involving ad blockers. These are hugely popular programs: according to recent statistics, around one billion people use ad blockers when they are online. Thats a testament to the importance many people attach to being in control of their browser experience, and to a wide dislike of the ads they are forced to view. The 2022 case concerned

If you're really serious about making a difference, you should start considering leaving YouTube, It's not enough to say this platform is trash to your viewers, most of them feel the trashy nature of it already (phone number requirement, centralized source of Information, ridiculous "community guidelines" and terms, , algorithms, advertisements.. and now Age verification by a Government ID and/or Face scan)
This doesn't mean ruining your content creator career in the process, if you're uploading to a different platform, chances are you already know the problem with YouTube, but just know that uploading to a different platform isn't the solution on it's own, just like using private front-ends isn't the ultimate solution, it's just a temporary fix.
while uploading to a second platform is great and it's much appreciated but unfortunately that alone doesn't incentivize (motivate) your followers to make the switch, you should take it a step further.
as long as you're treating the alternative as a backup solution instead of it being your future home, where your content and your community will live, then we don't have a chance against this tech giant, make the switch inside your mind first before asking your community to make it.
You work so hard to make that video, to the point where you'll start calling it a 'video project', and I agree.. it is a **project**.. it's a lot of work..
It's understandable why YouTube is the first platform you upload to, because you want people to see your work, what's the point of uploading that video (that you worked so hard to make) to an empty platform, a ghost city.. where no one will see it.. You go to YouTube for exposure, so use it for that.. just that.
**you don't have to upload everything to YouTube**, you're not there for engagement, you're there for people to see that you exist, if they want to see more of you, they should come to your primary platform, what you consider your future home to be, that home should be of course everything that YouTube isn't (No , No , No , No , No , No , No , No vague rules and legalese), use for exposure and your main platform for the content, a platform where you're not competing against ads that try to take your viewers attention.
Do you want to take it a step further
Upload short clips, teasers (shall we say) to YouTube, make a call to action in the end, "If you want to see the full version, the link is in the description"
YouTube has reached it's final stage, It can no longer offer anything useful to , now it's sole purpose is to be used as bridge for the next generation of video hosting platforms, ones that offer innovative ways to share and preserve humanity's knowledge, it's a huge gamble to trust a with that knowledge, they can restrict access to it, they can erase it, they can use it (and not in a good way e.g. training Ai), the moment you hit upload, It's not your content anymore, it's not your 'video project' anymore, it's a YouTube video.
I have seen content creators (who should know better) fall for the trap of convenience that YouTube set up for them, either by embracing the "pay or okey" model just so they don't see ads, and others going full normie and enabling memberships, leading their followers further into the surveillance ad machine, you should lead by example, content creators don't follow the crowds, the crowds follow content creators and leaving a platform is the most effective way to destroy it, you don't fight the system by staying in the system.

Hier besteht also ein Widerspruch.
I was watching Batman Forever (1995), with Jim Carrey as The Riddler and Val Kilmer as Batman. The following dialogue was near the end:
Batman: You've been sucking Gotham's brain waves and now you've devised a way to read men's minds.
The Riddler: Ha ha ha. You betcha! Soon my little box will be on countless TVs around the world, feeding me credit card numbers, bank codes, sexual fantasies, and little white lies. Into my head they'll go. Victory is inevitable. For if knowledge is power, then a god am I.
Interesting that what was once considered absolutely evil in 1995 is now a commonly accepted business practice of present day entities such as Google.

Digital Rights Management (DRM) doesnt work. Also: draft California law mulls mandatory DRM to preserve image provenance metadata, breaks Signal Messenger
15-20 years ago we had a reasonable, common understanding that making data tamperproof or copy-resistant by law and/or to enforce artificial scarcity, was problematic. Identity credentials or basic copyright, fine, but Digital Rights Management (DRM) , , and now its back to save us from AI, and its bad.
For context: broadly I think that its better to add metadata to authentic things to prove their authenticity or provenance, rather than to do something silly like simply because there are so many more fake things in the world than authentic. However: labels are labels, we dont need to get into that argument right now.
But whatever happens we wouldnt legally forbid people, platforms and products from removing those labels. After all, the important thing is that an authentic thing can eventually be checked for authenticity if/where necessary, correct
You wouldnt want to reinvent legislative DRM, right
AB 853: California AI Transparency Act
Nope. California says more DRM please!. Apparently piece of legislation, (extract below) says, if I am reading this right:
What about Signal, then
Adding metadata to images is , and I cant imagine that it would alternatively be very happy about being forced to swallow and send full-sized images from user to user by default images which in pursuit of speed and performance are .
God knows what would happen to video, I have no idea.
Theres also an interesting sop in the legislation re: personal information. Clearly someone has had a go at making it okay to from images:
A large online platform shall not strip any data that is not reasonably capable of being associated with a particular user and that contains EITHER information regarding the type of device, system, or service that was used to generate a piece of digital content OR information related to content authenticity, or digital signature from content uploaded or distributed on the large online platform AND IT shall not retain any provenance data that contains EITHER personal information OR unique device, system, or service information that is reasonably capable of being associated with a particular user from content shared on the large online platform
And the text is clearly aimed at centralised platforms like Facebook without end-to-end encryption being an issue:
Summary
This draft law is broken-as-designed.
Grade: D- you should know better than this.
Postscript / Update
As somebody on Reddit observed: you also need to contemplate the contents of your feed and observe how much of it actually comprises cropped screenshots from other platforms. This will entirely break the chain of trust which is held in the manifest, and thereby remove any signals of AI.
This is why it is important to expect the manifest to prove the authenticness of the authentic original, rather than to expect it to act as a label of fakeness that will somehow be meaningfully propagated from platform to platform.
Hence: this bill is attempting to close the wrong stables door after the elephant has bolted.
